Fixed Wing 2017

The OS-2 Albatross was designed for the 2017 SAE Aero Design Regular class. The challenge was to design a plane best suited to carry "passengers" (tennis balls) and their "cargo". It was our team's first ever design and our first year in competition. We looked at cargo plane designs and optimised for lifting capabilities. At competition, our plane was ultimately unable to fly, leaving the team with many lessons learned for the 2018 Competition.

My Contributions

  • Designed propulsion system based on calculated thrust requirements and a competition power limit of 1000W.
  • Engineered chassis structures and layout as part of the mechanical group.
  • Fabricated wings, chassis, and control surfaces using laser cut woods and industrial epoxies.
  • Tested motor thrust and RPM with selected propeller and power system.
